Composers Workshop

The goals of our Composer Workshop program are to give composers of merit the opportunity to create new works, to make accessible important music of our time, and to work on ways in which the particular musical style or message of new works can be communicated to a general audience. Our work with composers is carried out through intense working rehearsal sessions, live performances, and recording projects. Our Phoenix Ensemble, through this program, has produced several important CD recordings, including music of Jonathan Dawe and Milton Babbitt.

The presentation of new music and music of the 20th century is an effective and important way to stimulate interest in classical music for many people, especially with our young audiences. Our attention to new music generates from the fact that, although it can be a challenge, it can also be an experience of discovery that opens minds, stimulates new interest, and redefines music and the arts.
